Course Description

Have you always wanted to write but were never sure you could? Is there a novel burning inside you, held back by your fear of pursuit? Have you always envied those who seem to write so well, so clearly, and so effortlessly?

The Writer in You is an introductory course designed for those who want to explore their writing potential. To some, writing is an ordeal. But remember, nobody was born writing; all of us had to learn. This course will explore some of the more effective methods of communication through the written word. All that is asked of the student is that he/she try.

Week 1: Introduction

Week 2: Finding something to write about

Week 3: Writing personal letters

Week 4: Writing the narrative

Week 5: Writing the essay

Week 6: Discovering where you want to go from here

Homework:

Week 1: Make a list of subjects you "know." Choose three areas you feel you could write about and tell us why you would like to write about them.

Week 2: Write a detailed outline for a topic -- you may choose one of the three previously submitted or a new one altogether.

Week 3: Write a letter.

Week 4: Tell a story about something good that happened to you recently.

Week 5 & 6: Write an essay. Supply a detailed outline this week.

Week 6: Finish and submit your essay.

Jennifer Dearmin holds a master's degree in English with an emphasis on writing, and has years of writing experience to her credit, as well as years of pre- press experience. She has also taught writing at the university level.

Michael Dearmin holds a Ph.D. in English, also has years of writing experience, years of theatrical experience, and is the company's photographer. Furthermore, he has spent the better part of his life teaching both writing and literature at colleges and universities.
